Designers and conservationists wanted Do you have expertise in design, conservation or memorialisation? If so, the Grenfell Tower Memorial Commission would like to hear from you. We’re looking for expressions of interest from talented individuals and organisations with relevant expertise in these areas. They will join a pool of experts to advise and support us in developing a design brief to achieve the community-led vision for a fitting memorial at the Grenfell Tower site. Meetings with bereaved families The Commission's co-chairs and community representatives met some of the bereaved families at online events in November. The meetings updated bereaved families on the Commission’s work, and began to share back what the Commission is hearing as part of their ‘ideas gathering’ for a future memorial, as well as providing an opportunity for bereaved families to share their thoughts or concerns and to ask questions. Meetings with bereaved families The Memorial Commission’s chairs and community representatives met some of the bereaved families at online events in October. They heard their thoughts, answered questions and updated them on the different ways the bereaved, and the wider community, can share their thoughts, feelings and concerns on the future memorial. These were just the first in a series of regular meetings that the Commission will be holding, both with bereaved families and others. Gift from 9/11 Memorial and Museum On 12th September 2018, the National September 11 Memorial and Museum, in New York, presented the Grenfell community with a seedling grown from the Callery pear tree that stood on the original World Trade Centre Plaza. Government announcement to establish Memorial Commission A community-led Memorial Commission is to be set up so that community members can decide on the long-term future of the Grenfell Tower site.
