Out and about in February and March

Grenfell memorial wall

Recently our co-chairs, Thelma Stober and Paul Boateng have been out and about meeting different representative groups, as well as important community figures  in North Kensington. These included

  • Al Manaar Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre
  • Lancaster West Residents Association
  • Grenfell Tower Trust
  • Grenfell Next of Kin
  • Rugby Portobello Trust
  • Notting Dale Advisory Board
  • leaders from Notting Hill Methodist Church, St Francis of Assisi RC Church and St Clements Church.

Thelma and Paul used these meetings to update people on what the Memorial Commission is currently doing. We also wanted to hear the thoughts of these groups, and of those they represent, about how a future memorial might be used, who might own it and who could maintain it. We were able to get their advice on how we, as a Commission, might best connect and engage with those bereaved families, survivors and local residents who have not yet spoken to the Memorial Commission, so that we can ensure that their views are included in our final report. Our final report will be used to develop possible design options for the future Grenfell memorial.

Paul and Thelma found the meetings extremely productive and are very grateful for all those who took the time to meet them and who shared their knowledge and insight. Both co-chairs and the community representatives are looking forward to continuing these important discussions in our journey to create a lasting memorial to those we have lost.
