‘Good design is done in collaboration, and there is never one voice alone.’
In November 2025, Freehaus was appointed as the multi-disciplinary design team to develop the Grenfell memorial, working closely with bereaved families, survivors, and the immediate community to ensure their voices shape the design.
The film features several members of the team, including lead architects Jonathan Hagos and Tom Bell; landscape architect Andy Thompson from BCAL; community engagement specialists Julia King and Olivia Theocharides-Feldman from Social Place; and writer and poet Yomi Ṣode.
Also appearing in the film are two of the Memorial Commission’s community representatives, Abraham Abebe and Abbas Dadou. They explain the importance of Freehaus listening directly to bereaved and survivor families, as well as the wider community, to inform the final design.
You can learn more about Freehaus here and also about the process of selecting the design team in a blog post by community representative Susan Al-Safadi.
