Bereaved families' lunch

Design board

Recently we held a lunch for bereaved families to talk through the next steps in our journey to a fitting Grenfell memorial.  We were able to discuss with families the main themes we have heard in our conversations with the community so far, about how people would like a material to feel and the physical form they’d like it to be.

Our design advisor, Stephanie Edwards, joined us and brought along display boards to help attendees imagine and describe what they would like from a future memorial.

It was also the first opportunity for our new co-chair, Paul Boateng to meet with bereaved families and listen to their views. He shared his thoughts on what he has learnt so far:

The community needs to be heard, the community needs to have its voice shape a fitting memorial to all those who have lost their lives, to those who have suffered. A place of peace, a place for respectful memory, a place that belongs to the community – to the bereaved, to those who survived – because they shaped it.

To find out about future events being planned by the Memorial Commission with bereaved families, survivors and local residents, sign up to receive our monthly newsletters and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (@GrenfellTowerMC). Keep an eye out for letters through the post from us too.

If you are a bereaved family member, survivor or local resident, the Memorial Commission community representatives would really like to hear your thoughts on a future memorial. You can contact us directly or complete our questionnaire
