‘As a [design] team, we’ve got a commitment that every move we make, comes not from us, but from those most affected.’

In November 2025, Freehaus was appointed as the multi-disciplinary design team to develop the Grenfell memorial. The team is working closely with bereaved families, survivors, residents from the Lancaster West Estate and the immediate community, to make sure that their voices shape the memorial design.

The film features several members of the design team: lead architect Jonathan Hagos; landscape architect Andy Thompson from BCAL; and community engagement specialists, Julia King and Olivia Theocharides-Feldman from Social Place.

The film also features two of the Memorial Commission’s community representatives, Hanan Wahabi and Abbas Dadou. Hanan and Abbas express that, with the reduced visibility of Grenfell Tower on the skyline,  the creation of a bold and beautiful memorial is now more important than ever. The film also explains how the Freehaus team is ‘co-designing’ the memorial with families and others, and the next steps for developing and refining design options.

Bereaved families, survivors, residents from the Lancaster West Estate and the immediate community, are invited to speak with the Freehaus directly by emailing: hello@freehausdesign.com
